Allowing the non-required flow of liquids is what termed as leaky. A faucet may be leak in the kitchen. A leaky faucet can be priced more if proper care is not taken as if left unnoticed then many drops of water will be assembled to form gallons of waste water.

To fix it you first need to figure out what kind of faucet you have so that you can get the replacement parts. A common mistake is to get a wrong replacement part. Visually compare the old and new parts to make sure they are the same, even if an experienced plumbing store person picks it out for you.

If the faucet is flowing water from the handle or not fitting well then the cartridge has to be changed. The leaky faucet can be fixed when you follow the instructions properly. At first switch off the supply of water to the leaky faucet. Generally the shutoff’s of water are situated below the sink but in the ancient home there might be only one water shut off for the whole house which will be the main one. And that again must be located where there is an entrance for the water pipe.

Then the next step is opening the pipe and letting any water if there is any in the pipe to drain. Keep a cloth in the bottom of the basin. Pipes have generally small screws and you cant loosen the one to flow the drain.

Remove the faucet handle. Virtually all handles are attached with a screw often hidden under a decorative cap that can be pried off with a small screwdriver. Remove the workings of the faucet and determine what kind of repair is required.

There are five kinds of faucets: compression, washer less, cartridge (sleeve), ceramic disk, and ball type.

A compression faucet relies on rubber washers to seal the valve seat. Rubber washers wear out and must be replaced occasionally. The other types, often called washer less faucets, last longer but they too can develop leaks. When these cartridge, ceramic-disk or ball-type faucets leak, you can either replace the O-ring or neoprene seal that’s causing the leak or replace the entire assembly.

O-rings has sizes from 3/8 to 5/8 inch, so it is tough to co-relate the size of the pipe with your required pipe.
