This issue can easily be solved by presenting your partner with the nature of your business. Show your partner exactly what you must do on a daily basis, and how long is required to do each chore. Help your partner understand your work schedule, and how much time you must work every day. Showing just how much money you are making will help your spouse understand the benefits of your work as well.

Then ask your partner to assist you to come up with solutions for working from your home and keeping the family home. Jot down a list of things that must be done each week, and assign duties to you, him and the children (if they’re old enough). Then taking care of the house becomes a household priority and something that everybody can share responsibility in. Let him know of any extra tasks by using a work calendar on the wall. That way he can see what’s going on with your work schedule, and why you have bought pizza for lunch three times in the last week.

Many work at home moms can be hurt over offhand remarks about working out of your home. Family or even friends can say things like “Well you’ve the time, as you are at home.” In situations like these, you have a couple of alternatives. You can either get upset and offer a embarrassed defense or you could take their remarks with a grain of salt and give a cool reply. Depending on the situation you can like “Well, let me look at my work schedule. I know I am not free on today” or “That would be good on Friday afternoon, this is when I make time in my work agenda for those types of things.”
