Are the Oscars are a popularity money maker contest?

I am beginning to think that they are.

The Blind Side was nominated for Best Picture Of The Year?! I liked it. I saw it at the theater and I am most likely going to buy it. But I don't feel it's Best Picture. I am glad Sandra was nominated becuase she was brilliant in the film.

I think that if Blind Side didn't make that much money, it wouldn't even be considered as a Best Picture Nom.

I also think that that if Avatar didn't make that much money, it wouldn't even be touched by the Acedmy.

I think the awards are a big 'who made the most money' of the year contest.

Personally, I think the nominations for Best Picture should be The Hurt Locker, Precious, A Serious Man, An Education, Inglorious Basterds, and Up In The Air.

But they threw Discrict 9, UP, Avatar, Blind Side,

I am disappointed in the Oscars. I think the Critics Choice had it right. VOTE for the movie, not the 'names', or the money it made. Or how many people watched it.
